Limestone towers rise straight from the sea in Ha Long Bay, scattered across the horizon like islands dropped into the water. Guests board a traditional overnight boat and spend the evening moving quietly between the karst formations before anchoring among the cliffs for the night. Pedicabs roll slowly through the boulevards of Ho Chi Minh City. Outside the city the Củ Chi Tunnels reveal the underground network used by Viet Cong fighters during the Vietnam War. Visitors can crawl through preserved sections of the tunnels and, if they choose, fire historic weapons at the nearby range. The land flattens toward the Mekong Delta, where boats move through narrow canals toward floating markets stacked high with pineapples, coconuts, and vegetables traded directly from vessel to vessel.

The Mekong widens on the approach to Phnom Penh, boats passing fishing docks and small villages along the river before reaching Cambodia’s capital. The riverfront near the Royal Palace still reflects the city’s French colonial past, while the Russian Market remains one of the best places to wander through stalls of silks, antiques, and vintage finds. Roadside vendors outside the city display trays of live tarantulas, crickets, and silkworms that later become local snacks. Farther north the temples of Angkor rise from the jungle outside Siem Reap. Sunrise reveals the towers of Angkor Wat, while nearby ruins remain wrapped in massive tree roots made famous by the Tomb Raider film. One evening is reserved for a private dinner inside the Angkor temple complex, where lanterns illuminate ancient stone walls and traditional Khmer dancers perform beneath the ruins.
